Science Teacher Certification Program Overview
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is preparing tomorrow's science educators for an exciting and rewarding professional career in education. Educating scientists and health care professionals for over 185 years, USP is committed to quality science education. This program is designed to prepare you for professional careers as educators in four areas of specialization:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- General Science
- Environmental Education
Science Teacher Certification graduates are highly successful in obtaining teaching positions in middle schools, high schools and environmental centers across the country. USP's program leads to instructional certification in science in Pennsylvania. The PA Department of Education Instructional Certification is highly regarded throughout the United States and is currently accepted in 38 states.
First-Hand Experience
Through this program, you'll have the opportunity to observe, assist, and analyze the teaching and learning environment first-hand in a variety of learning environments.
The program includes a semester of supervised field experience that includes visits to at least four different schools in both urban and suburban districts.
The USP faculty, in collaboration with educators from surrounding school districts, supervises your professional development.
Teaching Assistantships
You can also enhance your professional development by working as a teaching assistant in USP undergraduate laboratories. Additional community outreach programs afford you the opportunity to experience the realities of teaching. You have the opportunity to assist teachers, and serve as tutors and mentors. You'll leave USP prepared to become a highly successful science educator in public or private school settings.
