Message from the Director

Clyde Ofner Clyde Ofner, PhD
Graduate Program Director for Pharmaceutical Sciences

Pharmaceutics is the field of drug delivery, covering many aspects of delivery—from how drugs are administered and absorbed into the body to how drugs are developed and manufactured. At USP, our MS and PhD degree tracks in pharmaceutics will prepare you not only for a career in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry but also for teaching and research in pharmaceutics for educational and regulatory institutions.

Through our programs you will:

  • Acquire a thorough background in the theoretical aspects of design and utilization of dosage forms and the delivery of drugs, including a consideration of their physical, chemical, and physiological properties.
  • Gain practical knowledge in areas ranging from the development and manufacture of dosage forms to pharmaceutical research, including studies in conventional, cellular, and implantable drug delivery, as well as biological studies in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  • Participate with faculty in their research, and explore the possibility of developing research initiatives of your own, all while utilizing USP's state-of-the-art research facilities.

At USP, we understand the needs of graduate students. Our MS degree has a non-thesis, or coursework only, option. Also, our graduate programs can often be completed on a part-time basis. You can even test the waters by enrolling in a course or two for professional development; up to 12 credits of coursework taken before admission to the program can be applied toward your degree (acceptance for coursework as a non-matriculated student does not guarantee admission into the program).

I look forward to meeting you to tell you more about the pharmaceutics graduate program at USP and how we can help you advance your research and career goals.
